Myrrh, my love
Learn to smell. Learn to scent the right thing!
Arsen Dedić sang about it with beautiful music and lyrics, so lifelike:
She picked a sprig of myrrh… on an island one day…
She didn’t know my youth was contained in it!
Neither blooms, nor withers, nor cries, nor laughs…
I was always glad because it’s a flower and it isn’t…
No bad days, everything ugly is erased… when my room smells like myrrh…
A song full of adrenaline, iodine, earth, sun.
Full of scents that stimulate hormones, full of smiles, youth.
Smell is the only one of the 5 senses directly connected to the limbic system in the brain, which is the center for emotions.
With smell, we react first and then think. All other senses first pass through the brain’s cortex (thinking). And we know where too much thinking leads us…
The smell of myrrh is special. Intense. Demanding.
A scent full of potential for rejuvenation. Body and spirit.
Dalmatian and Corsican myrrh are the most well-known and highest quality on the market.
Myrrh is used for cosmetic and therapeutic purposes.
Dalmatian myrrh, in particular, is valuable because of its high content of a chemical substance called italodion, which makes it highly valuable for therapeutic purposes, especially in absorbing hematomas and tissue regeneration.
Myrrh is best used for:
– bruises
– liver diseases and liver stress
– skin conditions
– wrinkles and scars
– pain relief
The botanical name for myrrh (Latin: Helichrysum italicum) comes from the Greek words “helios,” which means sun, and “chrysos,” which means gold.
Other names for myrrh: immortelle, strawflower, golden everlasting, curry plant.
- English: Immortelle
- French: Immortelle d’Italie
- Italian: Maredda, Elicriso
- Italicum is a wild plant that grows on dry and rocky terrain throughout the Mediterranean. The plant’s structure is adapted to a life with a large number of sunny hours and soil that is poor in water and plant nutrients.
If this plant were a person, they would say it’s self-sufficient!
It blooms in the summer and is harvested early in the morning when the concentration of essential oil is the highest. It must be distilled within 24 hours after harvesting, which is why distilleries are located near plantations. The flower contains a small amount of essential oil, so a ton of flowers is needed to produce 1 kg of essential oil.
Because of this and its chemical components, it is considered precious oil.
Myrrh is mentioned in folk songs as well:
Oh, my soul, my girl,
What do your sails smell like?
Apricots, oranges,
Myrrh, or basil?
Oh my, young hero,
My sails don’t smell like apricots or oranges,
Neither myrrh nor basil,
But like a young soul!
Because of its regenerative properties, it is used in cosmetics, especially for the care of dehydrated, tired, and wrinkled skin.
Recipe for rejuvenating cream:
30 ml of wild rosehip oil
8 drops of myrrh
Apply this oil mixture to your facial skin in a thin layer just before bedtime. The skin quickly becomes radiant and luminous.
Myrrh also helps with other skin imperfections when used regularly because it has a regenerating effect on collagen.
You can use it on old and new scars.
During the production of essential oil, another product is produced, and that is hydrosol or floral water. It is applied to the skin with a spray, moisturizes the skin, and calms inflammation. Myrrh hydrosol quickly refreshes the skin and makes it younger.
In England, rose hydrosols are especially popular. They are an integral part of the cosmetic bags of almost all English women.
Legend has it that the Croatian-Hungarian Queen Elizabeth, using rosemary hydrosol, remained beautiful, so the Polish king proposed to her as a widow in her advanced years. Thus, rosemary hydrosol is remembered and known as “Aqua Reginae Hungariae” (Water of the Hungarian Queen).
If you’re from Dalmatia, myrrh is your dad, lavender is your mom.
Lavender is soft, gentle, strong, calming, maternal.
Myrrh is sharp, strong, grounded, indestructible, a bit wild, stable, and consistent.
If you have special feelings towards lavender, whether it repels you or you long for it, the symbolic meaning says it’s time to separate from your mother.
If you have a reaction to the scent of myrrh (it repels you or strongly attracts you), think about your relationship with your father.
Transactional Analysis (Eric Bern) says that only an adult is happy. If you feel like a child, behave like a child, your life is flooded with emotions… you feel like your life is in someone else’s hands.
What does this have to do with lavender and myrrh?
If the scent of lavender and myrrh is pleasant to you and doesn’t cause aversion or a strong desire for the scent, that’s fine.
If the scents of these oils are repulsive or you strongly desire them, work on it.
Only a person who has separated from their parents can truly start their own life.
Only then is it possible to fulfill your desires, potentials, dreams.
Because, unfortunately, you can be a child at 80, but then you’re a frustrated child who blames the world (the behavior of your parents) around you and sits in a room of rotting dreams.
If you’re not from the Mediterranean, then lavender and myrrh don’t have such a strong influence, but plants from the region where you grew up.
This topic could be written in parts…
The scent of myrrh essential oil is deep, vibrant, and resurrecting.
It’s the scent of earth that smells like sun and myrrh within it.
A scent that relaxes, provides a sense of security.
A scent that pulls you in. To stay. On the earth. In the sun. With a view of the sea.
To rejuvenate!
If myrrh were a person, it would say: “I love leisure, porches, and I’m in no hurry.”
It works exceptionally well for conditions of chronic fatigue, exhaustion, and weakened immunity; it invigorates and refreshes.
Myrrh oil is rare and expensive, but because of its properties, it’s indispensable. If you want to afford it, make sure you’re buying oil obtained from varieties rich in italodiones – only such oil shows its full therapeutic value.

Now you know.
Knowledge doesn’t make you capable or successful.
Practice does. However, nobody wants to practice because it’s hard.
Those who don’t practice will never become real humans, humans who enjoy this life.
Practice smelling.
True essential oil from the fake, real food from the fake, real man from the fake, real woman from the fake.
